Общественный деятель, педагог. Пропагандист высшего образования для женщин. С 17 лет - школьная учительница, в 1837 основала Женскую семинарию Маунт-Холиок [Mount Holyoke Female Seminary], ныне Колледж Маунт-Холиок [Mount Holyoke College] и стала ее первым президентом [president]. В 1905 избрана в национальную Галерею славы [Hall of Fame]
